There is this moment during the process of hard red-pointing that I find more rewarding than the send itself. It’s the point when all the time and focus of beta finding, move refining and detail dialing finally crescendo and I realize the climb is possible.

For me up until that moment there’s normally a healthy amount of looming doubt polluting my mind; maybe there’s not enough time, the move is just too hard, there’s no way I’ll be able to link all that after such a tough sequence… But in this moment that haze of insecurity passes and the once impossible is amazingly within arms reach. It’s one of the most rewarding feelings climbing gives me, and a lesson that I remind myself of more and more in my every day life.

The last day of the 2014 I was fortunate to have one of these moments on my most recent project here in Chulilla Spain. It was one of those great days climbing that didn’t end until the sun set, a jesus breeze blew perfectly all day, the psyche stayed high, surrounded by old friends and new acquaintances, with hard red-points, impressive onsights, good links happening all around. Maybe it’s naïve to think such greats moments can continue to exist with such ease in the coming year, but I definitely keep the faith. Because as climbing has taught me more impossible things have happened. Happy New Year!

Beautiful and inspiring photos as per usual Colette! Happy new year, and have an amazing time over there in Spain 🙂
