the finest line

Sometimes I can’t tell what I love more, fashion or fashion photography. I’m beginning to think I only love fashion because of how it’s photographed. All the art, and lights and beautiful people, well it’s just dizzying! Ah yet another of life’s many conundrums. Anyhow, when I’m looking to take a break from my unhealthy addition to NPR and relish in the more simple joys of the mind I find myself gazing steadily at images such as these on sites such as those… lifeloungeisit?fashioncopiousbuamai…If I could only learn how to create that to light, or walk in heels such as those!fash1.pngfash2.pngfash3.pngfash4.pngfash5.pngfash6.pngfash7.pngfash8.pngfash9.png

…Colette, have you ever thought about studying photography…really learning what lighting is all about…it is obvious you have a passion and talent for the medium…not to knock anyone but the well is pretty shallow in the climbing photo world…
P.S. some of the images… are flashed…some are crossed…shutter drag on a few… a few tricks before the click of a button was all it took…but I guess now even those can be replicated…good luck …keep the images coming…

    Hi Colette,

I’m a photographer in Portland, ME (used to hang with Joe a bit, and I met you once @ the gym when you 2 were visiting).

Anyway, I’m new to the business and I have a lot to learn, so I spend a lot of time freelance assisting. Mostly with catalogue with some light fashion thrown in, and a lot of product photography. I can tell you that the light on these images is pretty simple. Of course the real skill comes out in finessing the light.

As you learn to work with light you also learn to deconstruct images you see…I can’t stop myself at this point.

If you end up staying in one area for a while, hopefully an area with a deep pool of talent, I’d recommend assisting. You learn and get paid. Some photographers will teach you more than others, but you can learn from any of them by watching.

One thing, climbing photography is very basic in terms of light. I’m not saying it’s easy, because it’s not, but the lighting is usually basic. Assist commercial or fashion photographers and you’ll learn a lot.

It is obvious from your posts that you have a good eye!

    Best of luck,

    Jon
