Opportunistas

11 Hours alone in a car does a lot of things to person. It gives them time to reflect on their past adventures, lets them listen to numerous new songs and radical podcast, it also brings them to a point of cracked outed-ness that’s just wrong. But no matter the anguish of my drive there was no bad taste left in my mouth about Portland. I was really blown away by the city and its metropolitan feel, conscious populace, and accessibility to the outdoors. One of the best things about traveling a lot is how you get to spend longer stints of times in areas and really get to soak up the culture. Of course I never made it to every brewery and coffee house, and never got to try those damn bacon donuts, but rolling with the locals and tagging along on the everydays of Portlandites got me an exorbitant amount of killer IPA, cheap sushi and live music.

Alas my time in P-town is up and I’m back on the road first to SLC for the tradeshow and some production work, then to CO for another assisting job, then Boulder for a little climbing and social hour, and finally off to Europe for an amazing three month stint. (Sorry regular readers, that timeline is for my mom…) Psyched, the future looks bright.

I know I’m like the last person to experience some Lightroom action, but the program is fantastical, like hours of your life fantastical. Here are some of Ben’s photos from a day out at Carver, a local bouldering spot and subsequently the Twilight meca for young tweens who come to touch the same boulders as their beloved vampire Edward. Yeah, weird.  Also there are some of my favorite images from Portland all dolled up with the LR2, Enjoy!

The other OR.

For the past week I’ve been staying in Portland, Or assisting the super talented and all around rad photographer Ben Moon. No worries art peeps, I’m not delving into whirlwind world of photography, I’m actually interested in the production side of shoots these bad boys work on. It’s been a great learning experience and I’ve had the chance to sit in on some shoots and experience the in and outs first hand. The pleasant flipside of this particular gig is I get to immerse myself  in Portland and its scene. It’s a super progressive city full of music, great food, amazing brews (coffee and beer!), plus an outdoor conscious and eclectic social scene. Not to mention two of my favorite people ever live here (shout out Amy Jo and Steve!!) I have to say, I’m way impressed with this city as it has all the great things a city should have, while retaining that small town feel, where you can get out for a run and bike at any time. I’ve seen more live music in the past week than the past year, while managing to still go on a bike ride nearly everyday, hit sick trails runs on the regular and get in a bouldering sesh on the weekend. Really it’s only the looming cloud cover and ominous predictions of torrential downpour winters that keep me at bay from making this place my next move. Even then it has definitely made the list.

joe took the g-nizzle to Wy, so I’ll have to compensate with some other folks art for now.
