Vans man…

Every morning I make my coffee and audio stream some Morning Edition for my daily dose of Steve and Renee. By the second cup of joe, I’m pretty perturbed about the present economy and most situations abroad. About this time I decide I want nothing to do this crazy world and instead I’ll go climbing with the saner population that has their priorities straight. It’s also about this time I realize since social security seems fucked I’ll probably be working until I’m dead anyways and I should continue to enjoy my early retirement, take the plunge and buy a van.
Considering how much Joe and I travel it’s quite surprisingly we don’t already own a gypsy mobile. We’re looking into an Astro Van because we’ve seen many climbers convert these rides comfortably and the gas is better than most. Here are some of the vans we’re looking at.

Neither of us are much of carpenters, but we’re gonna get some pointers from the experts and create a set-up in the back.

Besides that I’ve been having some serious girl time since Joe has been at the Nor’easter Event in Rumney. Ironically the event actually brought an actual Nor’easter bringing tons of rain and even a hurricane since they got there. Lame!! Crappy weather is one thing I don’t miss about the East Coast. Lauren swung through on her way up to Jackson Hole and we had a few hysterical days in canyon kickin’ it and climbing. On sat I went out with my roomies Jenn and Whitney and we had a sick day all sending our projects!! That’s always makes for the best drives home!

Terrifying

Yeah… scary.

Can you handle the pressure?

Yesterday Joe sent his long time project Kryptonite third burn last day. Ok it wasn’t really the last day, but Joe is really good at psyching himself up and pressuring himself into sending his “most important route ever!!”. I absolutely love watching this process as it’s nothing short of complete manic lunacy, yes very entertaining. No in all seriousness, when Joe sends a hard project I get just as happy as when I complete something important for myself. Congrats Joe!!!!

Team Send

big.jpg

Yesterday Joe, Dave and I completed a “Team Send!” These are the best days you can get when you go climbing with your crew. Joe tried for the onsight on Derelict 13c and fell low, decided to lower then flashed to the top for a second-go send. I tweaked the mantle beta on Beer Run 13a and did it second go that day! At the very end of the day Dave got one last belay on a long time nemesis Lung Fish 14b and housed it despite slightly mushy conditions.
It was gorgeous Fall day and the trees were going off! I absolutely LOVE this time of year, it never last long enough! After Dave sent we made a late drive to SLC were Joe will be participating at the HERA Climb4Life Event. If anyone is on the Salt Lake City area tonight, Joe’s video slideshow starts a 7pm. It’s a ten dollar cover that goes to Ovarian Cancer Research!!
Here are some pics from “Team Send”…

Recycle Old Phones

I’ve managed to keep the same cell phone for a whole two years!! This is a huge feat for me considering I usually lost/broke/had stolen phones about every three months in the past. So now I’m getting a NEW phone!! I ran into this sweet link for an easy way to recycle my old phone and help the environment.

VOTE!!!!

Ugh!! I just heard another scary McCain/ Palin advocate on the radio! This weekend while I was training in the gym a woman was going around making sure people were registered and seeing if they needed mail in ballots. I talked with her for a while and she said it was surprising how many people WEREN’T registered to vote. PLEASE go HERE if you have any doubts about whether or not you’re registered, or even if you want a mail in ballot for the big day! It’s super user friendly and quick, not some scary goverment doc ect…. Just double check!!! It’s sooooo important!!!

Still can’t make a choice?

Last weekend I bailed out of my religious climbing routine to take some chill days in Boulder and Denver. I have a similar love/ hate relationship with Boulder that I have with NYC only for totally different reasons; obviously the two places couldn’t be more different. I have been hoarding some photos from my last trip to B-town a few weeks ago. My friend reminded me that instead of posting the pics on my blog I just made smart-ass comments about how Boulders is a bubble full of yuppy-hipster trustfunders that get off on calling themselves progressive. And, well I felt bad, because even though I still believe this to be true, it is obviously not the whole truth. Boulder has tons of amazing things about it, my kick ass group of ladies being the biggest one. I suppose I haven’t totally written this place off, and as my world gets smaller I don’t really have room to eliminate any options.

I also headed to Denver to meet up with my old friend Steve from Fordham. We hadn’t seen each other for four years (yes, that’s when I graduated, don’t remind me!!). He and his girlfriend Colleen are moving out to Portland from Pittsburg and doing the cross-country road trip right. They’re stopping at the hot spots and taking their time to see all quirky pieces that make up this sometimes hard-to-digest pie. You can keep up with Steve’s travel on his blog www.stevebozzone.com Travel Safe!!!!!

Wake up!

She never ceases to amaze.

Snappy snap…

Writing from the oversized couch in C-dale. The past few days in Rifle were all about sendage for the present crew dwelling in the canyon. Nice work Rosie, Clay, Daniel, Alex, Spencer, Dan, Vian, and Joe. Luckily I added myself to that list by barely sending my short powerful 13a in the Wasteland called Thieves. Yay!!
Today I went to Independence path with Sam and fotog Dave Cliffard. I’ve done a photo or two since I’ve been climbing, but it’s always a little nerve racking working with a new photographer or going to an area that you’re unfamiliar with. I’m very adamant about the fact that I won’t get hurt for photos or push myself too far for media. A photo is a photo and my health is way more important than my ego. Today Dave wanted a shot soloing a shortish cliff over a water hole. Sam did the solo but I was pulling my grandma mode and was just not into it. If you did fall it would be COLD! Plus the truth is you never know if this crap is gonna get published anyways. I dunno guess I’m just not a good sport. I’m pretty cat like when it comes water. Burrrr…

Here are some pics of the past few weeks in Rifle… Some ridiculous sports action.

Chicas in high places

I just wanted to post a shout out to all the chicas killin it out there. While Joe and I were in Spain we ran into Alexandra Taistra. We were in the midst of week two of constant rain and our motivation was all but gone. When we first ran into Ola and she was optimistic Rodellar conditions would look up. We eventually all left as they continued to worsen. A week later we ran into Ola again in Cuenca where I was receiving a royal ass beating and becoming severely perturbed by my over dose of boyz and starvation of ladies. Ola must have seen the look of near defeat in my eyes and we sat down and talked for a good hour. It was the perfect medicine that only a girl can give. Recently Ola has been killin in Rodellar as the conditions have extremely improved. Go Girl!!

Besides that I have been climbing in Rifle with Emily H for that past few days and it’s been super inspiring climbing with someone so talented!

Rifle is incredible in that everywhere I look there are sick strong girls crankin’! So awesome!! I actually think the girls out numbered the guys at this year’s Rifle Clean Up, which is unheard of in climbing! Another girlie Daila is in the states for a few months and hopefully she’ll get out here for some crushing in the next weeks… VENGA TIA!!
